SMITH, Arthur L., a Representative from Washington County; born, Jacobs Creek, Westmoreland County, Pa. on October 21, 1897; attended, Westmoreland County Schools; attended, School of Mines, The Pennsylvania State (University) College; holder, First Grade Mine Foreman certificates, Pennsylvania and Ohio; senior air raid warden (World War I); engaged in mining and investigating; elected, treasurer, South Strabane School Board; elected, Joint Board of Education, Trinity High School, Washington; night class teacher, mining school; employed, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (4 years); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1942; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1944); senior enforcement officer of dog laws, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; died, November of 1971 in Ohio.
