SHEPARD, Rev. Marshall Lorenzo, Sr., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born in Oxford, Granville County, NC, July 10, 1899; graduated, Pendle Hill High School; attended, Winston-Salem Teachers’ College; A.B., Virginia Union University; attended, Temple University; private, Student Army Training Corps, Virginia Union University; minister, Mount Olivet Baptist Tabernacle; assistant secretary, National Baptist Convention; associate editor, National Baptist Voice; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1935, 1937, and 1941 terms; appointed, Philadelphia Charter Commission (1937-1938); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1939 and 1943 terms; appointed, Philadelphia Commissioner of Records; elected, recorder of deeds, Philadelphia (1951-1956); elected, city council, Philadelphia (1956-1967); died, February 21, 1967 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Plummer Cheatham Cemetery, Oxford, Granville County, North Carolina.
