MONKS, Raphael Ignatius, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, October 24, 1885 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; attended, St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic School; attended, Roman Catholic High School; employed, Pennsylvania Railroad (1899-1903); machinist, Baldwin Locomotive Works (1903-1917); deputy collector, United States Internal Revenue Department (1917-1929, 1933-1937); magistrate’s clerk, Philadelphia (1929-1930); auditor; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1941 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1943 term; tax consultant; died, January 9, 1952 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
