BARLEY, John E., a Representative from Lancaster County; born in Lancaster, Pa., December 6, 1945; graduated, Penn Manor High School, 1963; Dale Carnegie Course, 1977; law course, The Pennsylvania State University, 1990; honorary doctorate, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, 1997; farmer; chairman, Manor Township Planning Commission (1978-1985); co-chairman, Lancaster County Republican Primary Campaign (1983); member, Lancaster County Republican Committee; member, Pennsylvania Agricultural Republicans (chair, 1988-1991); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1985 term and was reelected for 9 consecutive terms thereafter; elected, Caucus Secretary (1991-1992); elected, Republican Policy Chairman (1993-1994); elected, Majority Whip (1995-1996); elected, Majority Appropriations Chair (1997-2002); appointed, House Select Committee on Violence (1994); appointed, Joint State Government Commission (1995-1996); resigned from the House, April 2, 2002; founding partner and Chief Executive Officer, Versant Strategies (2004-present); co-owner, American Male Salon, Lancaster.
