SMITH, Bruce I., Jr., a Representative from Cumberland and York Counties; born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa., February 19, 1934; graduated, John Harris High School, 1952; B.A., Elizabethtown College, 1956; M.Ed., The Pennsylvania State University, 1961; served, United States Army (1956-1958); served, United States Army Reserves (1958-1962); teacher; chairman, Recreation Board, Newberry Township (1971-1977); Newberry Township Republican Club (1974-1978); Republican Committeeman (1976-1980); member, York Men’s Republican Club; Planning Commission, Newberry Township (1978-1980); Board of Supervisors, Newberry Township (1978-1983); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1980; reelected to serve 12 consecutive terms thereafter; not a candidate for reelection to the House (2006).
