HORTING, Ruth Grigg, a Representative from Lancaster County; born in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pa., January 31, 1900; graduated, Stevens High School, 1918; graduated, Millersville State Normal School (now Millersville University of Pennsylvania), 1920; honorary doctorate of humane letters, Gettysburg College, 1961; teacher; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1937 term (Sworn-In on December 1, 1936); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1939 term; elected, delegate, Democratic National Conventions (1940-1960); vice-chair, Pennsylvania Democratic Committee (1944-1955); Secretary of Public Assistance, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare; appointed, Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (1959-1962); died, October 7, 1988 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
