HOLMES, John Laird, a Representative from Centre County; born in College Township, Centre County, Pa., February 20, 1868; attended, The Pennsylvania State (University) College; teacher (1890-1900); proprietor, general store (1900-1905); real estate sales; elected, burgess, State College (1913-1921); manager, Committee of Public Safety and Farm Labor, Centre County (World War I); president, Mt. Nittany Building and Loan Association; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1925 term; reelected to serve 4 consecutive terms thereafter; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1935 term; died, December 10, 1958 in State College, Centre County, Pennsylvania; interred, Pine Hall Cemetery, State College, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
