BATTISTO, Joseph W., Sr., a Representative from Monroe County; born in Mount Pocono, Monroe County, Pa., June 27, 1931; B.S., East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania); M.S., Scranton University; served, United States Army (1953-1955); elected, council, Mount Pocono (1970-1973); elected, mayor, Mount Pocono (1974-1981); executive committee member, Monroe County Democratic Party; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ 189th District for the 1983 term and reelected for 8 consecutive terms thereafter (1985-2000); appointed, Select Committee on Land Use and Growth Management (1990); appointed, Pennsylvania Higher Educational Facilities Authority (1991-1992); appointed, State Public School Building Authority (1991-1992); appointed, Local Government Commission (1993-1994); appointed, Task Force on Higher Education Funding (1994); appointed, Select Committee on Pharmaceuticals (2000); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (2000); unsuccessful campaign to the House for the 176th District (2002 Special election, 2002 Primary election); died, October 25, 2014 in East Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.
