FAUSET, Crystal Dreda Bird, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, June 27, 1893 in Princess Anne, Somerset County, Md.; graduated, Boston Normal School, 1914; B.A., Teacher College at Columbia University, 1931; M.Ed., Columbia University; public school teacher (1914-1918); field secretary and social worker, Young Women’s Christian Association (1919-1926); traveling speaker, American Friends Service Committee (1927-1932); executive secretary, Institute of Race Relations, Swarthmore College (1933-1935); board of trustees, Cheyney Training School for Teachers (now Cheyney University of Pennsylvania); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1939 term; resigned from the House, January 8, 1940; assistant state director, education and recreation program, Works Progress Administration (1940-1941); special director, United States Office of Civilian Defense, New York City (1941); race relations advisor, Fiorello LaGuardia, New York City mayor; chairperson, Philadelphia Negro Woman’s Democratic League; died, March 28, 1965 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mt.
