COLEMAN, Edward J., a Representative from Lackawanna County; born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pa., November 5, 1902; graduated, Central High School; clerk, railroad dispatcher’s office; Democratic Committeeman; president, Young Men’s Democratic Club (2 years); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1935 and 1937 terms; appointed, Joint Legislative Committee to Revise Anthracite Mine Laws (1937-1938); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1939-1946); gubernatorial appointee, State World’s Fair Commission (1939-1940); appointed, Local Government Commission (1941-1946; chair, 1943-1946); appointed, Anthracite Subsidence Commission (1943-1944); appointed, Joint State Government Commission (1945-1946); appointed, Commission to Study the School System (1945-1946); not a candidate for reelection to the Senate (1946); unsuccessful campaign, mayor, Scranton (1941); elected, treasurer, Scranton (16 years); died, April 11, 1969 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
