VARALLO, Mary A., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, June 11, 1897 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; graduated, West Philadelphia High School; graduated, Peirce School of Business; graduated, Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and Journalism; attended, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania School of Criminology, and Leefson Conservatory; honorary doctorate of humane letters, Cabrini College (now Cabrini University), 1962; served, American Red Cross; professional pianist and organist; proprietor, jewelry store; president, Women's Democratic Club of Philadelphia; president, Italian-American Women's Democratic Club of Philadelphia; member, 36th Ward Democratic Executive Committee; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1945 term and reelected to serve the 1949, 1951, 1953, 1955, 1957, and 1959 terms; elected, Minority Caucus Chair (1957-1958); elected, Majority Whip (1959-1960); appointed, Joint State Government Commission (1957-1960); resigned from the House, January 4, 1960; elected, city council, Philadelphia (1960-1968); advisory board member, Cabrini College; elected, delegate, Democratic National Convention (1960, 1964); died, November 27, 1979 in Somers Point, Atlantic County, New Jersey; interred, Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
