COWAN, William, a Representative from York County; born, January 24, 1790 in Maryland; served, Pennsylvania Militia (1814, War 1812); famer; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Airville (1830-1835, 1837-1838); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1833); elected as an Anti-Mason to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1835-1836 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1836); died, October 13, 1888 in Lower Chanceford Township, York County, Pennsylvania; interred, Chanceford Presbyterian Cemetery, Airville, York County, Pennsylvania.
