KIRK, Jacob, a Representative from York County; born, February 18, 1789 in Fairview Township, York County, Pa.; land surveyor; justice of the peace, Newberry and Fairview Townships; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Lewisberry (1815); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1835-1836 term; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1836); secretary, York Haven and Harrisburg Bridge Turnpike Road Company (1838); appointed, associate judge, Court of Common Pleas, York County (1850-1851); superintendent, York County schools (1854-1856); died, September 7, 1857 in New Market, York County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fairview Township, York County, Pennsylvania.
