HAMLIN, Orlo Jay, a Representative from Lycoming, McKean and Potter Counties; born, December 2, 1803 in Sharon, Litchfield County, Ct.; studied law under Simon Kinney; teacher (1824-1826); lawyer (1826-1880); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Smethport (1829-1832); deputy United States Marshall (1830); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1832-1833 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House; deputy prothonotary, register and recorder, McKean County; attorney, United States District Court (1837); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1837-1838); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1841, 1842); died, February 13, 1880 in Smethport, McKean County, Pennsylvania; interred, Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport, McKean County, Pennsylvania.
