KNIGHT, Jonathan, a Representative from Washington County; born, November 22, 1787 in Bucks County, Pa.; farmer; surveyor; civil engineer; elected, commissioner, Washington County (1816-1818); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1822-1823 and the 1823-1824 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1824-1828); employed, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company (1828-1842: chief engineer, 1830-1842); elected, United States Congress (1855-1857); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1856, 1858); died, November 22, 1858; interred, West Land Cemetery, West Brownsville, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
