HENDERSON, Joseph, a Representative from Washington County; born, September 28, 1797 in Accomac, Accomack County, Va.; studied law under George W. Harris; engaged, wool factory; elected, auditor, Washington County (1823-1824, 1835-1836); appointed, clerk of courts, Washington County (1823-1828); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Washington borough (1828-1829); elected, sheriff, Washington County (1829-1832); elected as an Anti-Mason to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1832-1833 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House; lawyer (1839-1872); unsuccessful campaign, Surveyor General of Pennsylvania (1850); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Canal Commissioner; died, September 19, 1872 in Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Washington Cemetery, Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
