MAHANY, James A., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born circa 1795 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; lawyer; guardian of the poor, Philadelphia County (1823, 1828); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1823-1824 and 1824-1825 terms; gubernatorial appointee, Commission to Investigate the Cause and Extent of Pauperism in the City and Liberties of Philadelphia” (1825); prison inspector, Philadelphia County (1828); died, September 12, 1828 in Northern Liberties Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, First Dutch Reformed Church Burial Ground, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; removed to Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
