BINDER, William, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, April 24, 1768 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; hatter; furrier; appointed, assessor and Inspector, Northern Liberties Township (now Philadelphia) (1805); appointed, assessor, Northern Liberties Township (1807); elected, Inspector, Northern Liberties Township (1808); elected in Special Election as a Democratic-Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on January 28, 1809 to serve the remaining 1808-1809 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1809-1813); elected, board of health, Philadelphia County (1809-1810, 1821-1826, 1832-1835); unsuccessful campaign, Inspector, Northern Liberties Township (1810, 1837); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the Senate (1813, 1814); elected, director, Kensington schools (1818); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1818, 1819, 1823, 1824, 1829, 1831); elected, commissioner, Northern Liberties Township (1819, 1821, 1824); reelected as a Democrat to House for the 1826-1827, 1827-1828 and 1828-1829 terms; appointed, prison inspector, Philadelphia (1826-1830); president, Manufacturers’ and Mechanics’ Beneficial Savings Institution of the Northern Liberties (1835-1836); died, October 4, 1842 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, St. John’s Burial Ground, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; removed to Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
