STOKES, Dr. Samuel, a Representative from Northampton, Wayne and Pike Counties; born, 1780 in Richland, Bucks County, Pa.; physician; apothecary merchant; commissioner, Smithfield Turnpike Road Company (1815); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1830-1831 and 1831-1832 term; trustee, Stroudsburg French Seminary (1839-1858); elected, burgess, Stroudsburg (1843); died, August 8, 1858 in Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania; interred, Friends Burial Ground, Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.
