REED, Charles Manning, a Representative from Erie County; born, April 3, 1803 in Erie, Erie County, Pa.; graduated, Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson College); brigadier general, Pennsylvania Milita (1831) lawyer (1824); steamboat proprietor; elected, as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1837-1838 term; engaged, Erie Canal Company (1843-1856);  elected, United States Congress (1843-1845); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1844); engaged, Erie Bank (1848-1850); engaged, railroad business (1846-1849); died, December 16, 1871 in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania; interred, Erie Cemetery, Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
