ROBERTS, Jonathan, a Representative from Montgomery County; born, August 16, 1771 in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pa.; wheelwright; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1788-1789 and 1789-1790 term; reelected to the House as a Federalist for the 1790-1791 term; elected as a Democratic-Republican to the House for the 1799-1800 and 1800-1801 terms; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1807-1811); elected, United States Congress (1811-1814); elected, United States Senate (Special Election, 1814, 1814-1821); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the United States Senate (1820); reelected to the House as a Democrat for the 1823-1824, 1824-1825 and 1825-1826 terms; appointed, Pennsylvania Canal Commissioner; elected, delegate, National Democratic Convention (1840); appointed, tax collector, Philadelphia Customs House (1841-1842); died, July 24, 1854 in King of Prussia, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; interred, Roberts Burial Ground, King of Prussia, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
