ESPY, Dr. George Richard, a Representative from Crawford and Venango Counties; born, February 21, 1796 in Espyville, Allegheny (now Crawford) County, Pa.; physician; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1827-1828, 1836-1837 and 1837-1838 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1828, 1829); elected, treasurer, Venango County (1835-1836); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1836, 1837); appointed, State auditor general (1839-1842); miller; merchant; died, February 21, 1849 in Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa; interred, Fort Madison City Cemetery, Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa.
