DOWNEY, John, a Representative from Dauphin County; born, 1770 in Germantown (now Philadelphia), Pa.; attended, Germantown Academy; owner and educator, Latin and Grammar school, Harrisburg; elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1817-1818 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1818); cashier, Harrisburg Bank; director, Harrisburg and Middletown Turnpike Company; died, July 21, 1826 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
