CUMMINGS, David P., a Representative from Fayette County; born, April 23, 1777 in Rising Sun, Cecil County, Md.; captain, 14th Regiment, United States Infantry (1813-1815, War of 1812: Prisoner of War, Quebec, Canada, 1813); teacher; mail contractor, United States Postal Service; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1823-1824 and 1824-1825 terms; unsuccessful reelection campaign to the House (1825, 1827); engaged, contractor and superintendent, Juniata division, Pennsylvania Canal (1827-1840); collector, port of Harrisburg (1834); died, February 5, 1848 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Cummings Cemetery, Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
