IRWIN, Thomas Mifflin, a Representative from Fayette County, Pa.; born, February 22, 1784 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; attended, Franklin College (now Franklin and Marshall College); editor, Philadelphia Repository (1804); attorney (1808-1870); Indian agent, Natchitoches, La. (1808-1810); appointed, deputy attorney general, Fayette County (1812-1819); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1822); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1825-1826 and 1826-1827 terms; elected, United States Congress (1829-1831); appointed, judge, United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania (1831-1859); died, May 14, 1870 in Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh), Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
