STEWART, Samuel, a Representative from Bradford, Lycoming, Potter and Tioga Counties; born, December 4, 1770 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; major, brigade inspector, Pennsylvania Militia (1812-1813, War of 1812); appointed, deputy surveyor, Lycoming County (1793- 1795); elected, sheriff, Lycoming County (1795-1798, 1801-1804); appointed, treasurer, Lycoming County (1805-1808); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1808, 1815); elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1814-1815 term; died, April 6, 1844 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania; interred, Jersey Shore Cemetery, Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
