SHULZE, John Andrew, a Representative from Dauphin and Lebanon Counties; born, July 1, 1774 in Tulpehocken, Berks County (now Lebanon County), Pa.; attended, Franklin College (now, Franklin and Marshall College); ordained Lutheran minister (1796-1802); proprietor, mercantile store (1802-1823); elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1806-1807, 1807-1808 and 1808-1809 terms; elected, auditor, Dauphin County (1809); reelected to the House as a Democrat for the 1821-1822 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1822-1823); elected, Governor of Pennsylvania (1823-1829); president, Electoral College (1840); died, November 18, 1852 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Woodward Hill Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
