PORTER, George Bryan, a Representative from Lancaster County; born, February 1, 1791 in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pa.; attended, Morristown Academy; graduated, Litchfield Law School (now Yale University Law School), Ct., 1812; major, United States Army (War 1812); major general, 4th division, Pennsylvania Militia (1828); attorney (1813-1834); farmer; appointed, prothonotary to the court of common pleas, Lancaster County (1818); appointed, adjutant general of Pennsylvania (1824-1829); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1827-1828 term; appointed, Marshall for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (1831); presidential appointee, Territorial Governor of Michigan (1831-1834); died, July 6, 1834 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan; interred, Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.
