ASHMAN, John, a Representative from Huntingdon County; born, February 24, 1783 in Bedford Furnace (now Orbisonia), Bedford (now Huntingdon) County, Pa.; owner, grist mill; farmer; unsuccessful campaign, auditor, Huntingdon County (1809); unsuccessful campaign, commissioner, Huntingdon County (1814); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Three Springs (1820-1821, 1835-1837); elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1822-1823 and 1824-1825 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1823-1824 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1825-1826 term; elected, delegate, Anti-Mason State Convention (1830); died, May 20, 1860 in Three Springs, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saltillo Cemetery, Saltillo, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
