PURVIANCE, William Alexander, a Representative from Butler County; born, June 22, 1788 in Claysville, Washington County, Pa.; farmer, surveyor; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1829-830 and 1830-1831 terms; reelected to the House as a National Republican for the 1831-1832 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1836-1839); elected, delegate, Whig State Convention (1839); elected, delegate, Democratic State Convention (1840); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the Senate (1840); died, April 1, 1857 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, White Oak Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, Renfrew, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
