INGERSOLL, Charles Jared, a Representative from Philadelphia City; born, October 3, 1782 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; lawyer (1802-1860); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1811); elected, United States Congress (1813-1815, 1841-1849); appointed, United States District Attorney, Pennsylvania (1815-1829); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1830-1831 term; elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1837-1838); appointed, Secretary of the Legation to Prussia (1837); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1837, 1838); unconfirmed nomination, Minister to France (1847); died, May 14, 1862 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Woodlands Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
