POWELL, Richard, a Representative from Luzerne County; born, April 28, 1875 in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales; slate picker, Kingston Coal Co.; clerk, recorder’s office, Luzerne County (1907-1908); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1908; detective, Luzerne County (1910-1911); business agent, Liquor Licensees’ Association of Luzerne County; secretary, Edwardsville School District; reelected to the House as a Democrat in 1914 and 1918; reelected to the House as a Republican in 1916; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1910, 1920); chief county detective, Luzerne County (1920-1955); died, March 1, 1958 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
