McDOWELL, John, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, circa 1785 in Pennsylvania; cabinet maker; elected, auditor, Allegheny County (1836-1838); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1838-1839 and 1840 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1841); elected, commissioner, Allegheny County (1845-1848).
